Ship guide · Norwegian Spirit at Icy Strait Point
Norwegian Spirit is an occasional visitor to Icy Strait Point rather than a season-long regular — just 4 calls in 2026, clustered late July through early September, each with a good 10 to 12 hours ashore.
Norwegian Spirit is the oldest ship in Norwegian's Alaska lineup, launched in 1998 and given a major $100 million-plus refurbishment in a 2020 dry dock in Marseille that added six new restaurants and refreshed its staterooms. At 879 feet and roughly 75,900 gross tons, it's smaller and older than Norwegian's newer Alaska ships, and it visits Icy Strait Point far less often than Jade or Joy.

Getting into town
A flat, roughly 1.5-mile shoreline path connects the pier to downtown Hoonah, typically 25–45 minutes each way. Full terrain, landmark, and accessibility details are on our walking + shuttle guide.
A shuttle runs whenever a ship is in port, about a 5-minute ride, typically sold as a round-trip ticket at the Icy Strait Point ticket booth near the donut shack.
Three of Spirit's four calls dock directly at Wilderness Landing, so you walk straight off. Its one Ocean Landing date (August 27) uses a different disembarkation point — check your daily navigator to confirm which pier your specific sailing uses.
